Chinese New Year

Do you know anybody who doesn’t enjoy Chinese food? No, neither do I.  So at Chinese New Year I don’t really need an excuse to create a Chinese extravaganza.  This table consists of silk runners, red mats, glasses, contrasting black bowls, plates and chopsticks.

Chines New Year Table Setting

You can purchase a wide variety of Chinese delicacies and crockery at a fabulous Chinese supermarket called ‘Wing Yip’ based in Surrey.  They are actually wholesalers who sell huge quantities of rice, oil, fish etc to Chinese restaurant owners.  They don’t seem to mind though when I only buy a packet of prawns!

Flower Arrangement for Chinese New Year

I copied the above table decoration from a flower arrangement library book.  It’s actually easier to make than it looks.  All you need are two fans (available from Chinese gift shop) 3 bamboo shoots cut to create a lattice frame, a thick black plate with pebbles and water 5 red Anthuriums, bear grass, oasis, florist wire, florist pin and plastistick.
